At the start of the game (at level 10), you have a choice to join one of three factions in New World: The Marauders, The Covenant, or the Syndicate. Different factions have different cosmetic sets, but other than that function mostly in the same way.

New World’s title should give you a vague idea of what to expect - it’s a game about colonizing a new continent in a parallel universe's 17th Century where the only residents of this unspoiled land are demons and monsters.

Main Story Quests in New World are a type of Quest that must be completed in order to progress in the game. Some Main Story Quests may require that your character is at a certain level to be obtained, this can be read more more easily achieved by completing other Quests, even thou some of the other Quests are optional, you can earn useful Items and Equipment that would help you on your adventure.
We don't know if New World will be the next great MMO, but we can safely say that its big hammers look very fun to swing.
As previously mentioned, players are able to build settlements and towns which are then able to host other resident players in the game world. When these settlements are built and have other players living in them, the person in charge of the place can implement taxes to the residents.
Amazon Games describes Azoth as an island resource that characters in the story fight and die for. For gameplay, it is a resource that enhances player abilities and powers them up in general.
Choosing a smaller faction may have greater benefits with the full release. Pretty much every scrap of land in New World can be purchased and fought over. This makes up a large part of PVP in the game. Different factions will war over land. Once an area is owned, the faction can set a tax rate, get rewards, and choose which projects to complete (like leveling up the blacksmith so all players can smelt better gear.)
To do that, players can join Guilds – or as they’re known in New World, companies – allowing you to develop chunks of the landscape into big towns.
